PERMANENT EXHIBITIONS OF THE REGIONAL MUSEUM JÍLOVÉ U PRAHY

History of gold mining and processing

Gold has been with mankind since the beginning when it learned to use metals. Gold has an exceptional position due to its ease of processing, rarity and beauty. Not least because of its unique properties such as its chemical stability (it does not corrode), malleability and, in the last 100 years, its very good electrical conductivity. The Jílové Museum is systematically and comprehensively devoted to the importance of gold in our country, in the world and in many sectors of human activity. The Jílové gold-bearing district can be considered the most important gold-bearing district in the Czech Republic according to historical reports and the extent of old workings. The Jílové Museum in its gold exhibition allows visitors to see gold in the Czech Republic and the world from many different angles. The introductory part of the exhibition is devoted to the occurrence of gold in nature and its use in human life. Then you can get acquainted with the different areas of gold mining in the Czech Republic, medieval mining tools, panning (in the summer months you can try panning in the courtyard of the museum), you can also see an exhibition of rocks and minerals related to gold, historical documents and old maps, gold coins, monuments of mining in Jílové. Interesting and illustrative are the wooden models, e.g. of a gold mine or the Jílové gold processing plant from the beginning of the 18th century. The last part of the exposition deals with the present - the recovery of gold by recycling; there is a glass apparatus for processing waste containing precious metals.

The Ora et labora exhibition

The archaeological exhibition Ora et labora (Pray and work) is located in the basement of the museum and is dedicated to the Benedictine monastery of St. John the Baptist on Ostrov u Davle founded in 999, the oldest history of Jílovsko and the extinct medieval settlement at Hradištěk u Davle. Visitors can see a 3D visualisation of the possible appearance of the monastery in its various stages of development. Furthermore, the 3D projection shows the medieval appearance of the extinct town above the confluence of the Vltava and Sázava rivers in a place now called Sekanka, which is traditionally associated with the Ostrov Monastery. In the exhibition, visitors will also see a reconstruction of the monastery scriptorium, the interior of a medieval country house or a model of a 13th century settlement on Sekanka. The exhibition also includes a new nature trail from Sekanka to Ostrov and to the church of St. Kilian in Davle, which was historically part of the wider monastery complex. There are 10 information panels that will acquaint visitors with the history, form and results of archaeological investigations at individual sites. Each panel includes a large-scale image with a visualisation that shows the visitor what the site looked like centuries ago.

Tramping and nature in the southern surroundings of Prague

The exhibition is dedicated to the landscape between the Kocáb, Vltava and Sázava rivers and the history of the tramping movement. It was in the southern surroundings of Prague that tramping originated around 1918. Visitors to the museum have the opportunity to get to know the romantic life of the first campers who went to the local wild valleys, either as members of various associations such as KČT or Junák, or directly on their own. Among other things, it explains in detail what influenced tramping in its beginnings and you will also learn which important personalities, especially sportsmen and musicians, were bred by it. In addition, you will find the location of historical and contemporary hut settlements on a clear map. The exhibition was first opened in 1987 and has since been rebuilt and updated twice. The authors of its current form are Václav Eminger and Ivo Nevečeřal, the artwork was done by ac. mal. Miroslava Krausová and Petr Kříž.
